Next Censored Image: Monkey, Check.
I find it hard to swallow that with all the love and good will toward President Barack Obama that the subject of race still has to be picked at and exploited. On February 18, the New York Post printed a cartoon of two cops looking over the corpse of a monkey that they just shot. One cop says, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.” What do you think it means?

From a minor glance over this not-so-funny cartoon, I gathered it claimed monkeys wrote the current controversial stimulus bill. The Associated Press reported that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on the other hand was horridly offended. Is that a racial jab there? Could you referring to black people as monkeys? Or is it just a friendly threat on the life of our president? Yes, these are the questions the NAACP asked of the article and decided the cartoon is racist, a threat, and unfair to Obama. They are so offended they are striving to get veteran cartoonist Sean Delonasthe and the editor-in-chief Col Allan to be removed from their positions.
People, this is humor. How many times have cartoonists draw George W. Bush to look like a monkey? Or compared him to a chimp? Beside that point, as this cartoon doesn’t depict Obama in the least, it appears far fetch to claim it’s a jibe at him. And did the NAACP think for a moment that perhaps the comic referred to the horrific story about the chimp that was shot the day before in Connecticut?
Even so, The New York Post even issued an apology for the people that were offended, which I don’t think they needed to do. Grow up people, it’s not all about your personal politics. I hope this kind of huff doesn’t maintain throughout Obama’s entire presidency, not everything is about race and it’s time we stop trying to make it so.
